AQF Qualifications

There are various AQF endorsed certificates available in a great deal of subject areas, so there is certain to be a course to suit your skills and prior experience, to find a specific course to match your skills, take a look at our SkillSearch tool. The qualifications range from Certificate I, through to Advanced Diploma level:

Qualifications certify the knowledge and skills that a person has achieved through study, training, work and life experience. They are a measure of Australia's intellectual capital, which is increasingly important in a society where unskilled jobs have disappeared and continuous up skilling is required in all forms of work and in day-to-day life.

An AQF qualification is the result of an accredited complete program of learning that leads to formal certification that a graduate has achieved learning outcomes as described in the AQF.

An AQF qualification is recognised all around Australia and by other countries.

School, work-based qualifications and academic qualifications are part of a single system of qualifications, allowing maximum flexibility in career planning and continuous learning.

The AQF links together the qualifications and is a highly visible, quality-assured national system of educational recognition that promotes lifelong learning and a seamless and diverse education and training system.

Certificates I and II are 'entry level' qualifications. They provide the initial skills and knowledge required to specialise in an area, and are what you would need for 'entry level' employment, or to go on and study at a higher certificate level. If you have been employed in a specific job then you may well already have the skills to be eligible for a Level I or II Certificate.

Certificate III qualifications provide you with the skills to carry out a specific work role such as a childcare assistant or retail assistant. Again, if you've been working in these sectors, you may already have the prior learning to qualify for a Level III Certificate.

Certificate IV qualifications prepare you for a more responsible position where you may need to have a better theoretical knowledge or a more complex grasp of the skills required for a job. Many trades require a level IV certificate.

Diploma (Level 5). A Diploma requires more highly developed skills: in coordinating projects; managing staff or demonstrating management responsibilities within a specific industry, for example. Examples could include childcare centre manager, or a business manager.

Advanced Diploma (Level 6). An Advanced Diploma develops complex skills further and involves demonstrating significant judgement in planning, design, technical or leadership skills, for example. A senior HR manager would need an Advanced Diploma.

Vocational Graduate Certificate (Level 7). A Vocational Graduate Certificate demonstrates the self-directed development and achievement of broad and/or specialised areas of knowledge and skills building on prior knowledge and skills.

Vocational Graduate Diploma (Level 8). A Vocational Graduate Diploma demonstrates the self-directed development and achievement of broad and/or highly specialised areas of knowledge and skills building on prior knowledge and skills.

AQF qualifications are available in all main vocational areas, so if you have skills or experience in any specialised area, you will already have qualified for some, or all of the criteria for these awards. Our RPL Wizard® will help you to accumulate evidence and build up your portfolio.
